How to Experience the Underwater World in Just One Day!

Do you want to experience diving for the first time in one of the world’s top scuba diving destinations? If so, then you are in the right place! The even better news is that you don’t have to be an experienced diver or take a course to go diving on Koh Tao. PADI Discover Scuba Diving experiences allow you to get out in the ocean and explore some of our amazing Koh Tao diving sites with no previous experience or qualifications necessary.

At our Koh Tao dive resort, we run PADI Discover Scuba Diving programs every day through our PADI 5-star dive center, meaning whenever you visit you’ll have the opportunity to join one of our classes. We do recommend you book a 2-night stay however, as the class starts in the morning and does not finish until around 5 pm. It is the perfect activity for those who don’t have a lot of time, are unsure if they will like scuba diving, or don’t want to spend a chunk of their holiday time in a classroom. Want to know more? Who can try diving?

Anyone aged 10 and upwards can try diving on Koh Tao, making it a perfect activity for all of the family. You do need to be relatively physically fit though, and you’ll need to complete a medical questionnaire prior to taking part in any Koh Tao scuba activities.

How does it work?

You will meet your diving instructor in the morning at our PADI dive resort. At our PADI 5-star dive center, each and every one of our friendly and professional PADI instructors have been hand-picked to provide the best service possible, so you’ll be in great hands. Your Instructor will get you fitted for a set of diving equipment and give you a short briefing. Don’t worry, it won’t be anything too in-depth or complicated, but enough information so you feel at ease in your diving equipment, and safe and comfortable in the water.

Once the briefing is over, you’ll practice some basic skills in the swimming pool and get comfortable moving around in your dive gear. Then th e real fun begins as you jump on our dive boat for an afternoon trip to two of Koh Tao’s best dive sites for beginners. You’ll see vibrant coral reefs and colorful tropical fish as you swim around in the amazing underwater world.

Is Scuba Diving on Koh Tao Safe?

Yes, Koh Tao diving is very safe. We keep our dive groups small ensuring personal attention from your instructor, so you’ll have all of the care and assistance you need and plenty of time to ask questions. Your PADI Instructor will take care of the equipment set up for you, and also manage your buoyancy and control underwater. They’ll have contact with you the whole time, so all you need to do is relax and enjoy the magnificent surroundings.

How deep will I go?

You’ll start off in very shallow water so that you can easily reach the surface if you have any problems or want to talk to your instructor. The maximum depth you’ll reach throughout the day is 12metres.

What Will I See?

Koh Tao scuba diving is some of the best in the world as most of the corals and fish are in the shallows, which is perfect for first-time divers! Regular sightings include parrotfish, butterflyfish, and bannerfish, and if you are lucky maybe even a clownfish, stingray, pufferfish or turtle. One thing is for sure, with crystal blue waters and tropical colors surrounding you, you’ll be in love with Koh Tao’s magical underwater world in no time!

What does It Cost?

The price for your one day diving on Koh Tao is 3,500 THB and includes your PADI Discover Scuba Diving manual, a full set of diving equipment, 2 boat dives, plus snacks and refreshments onboard.

Ready to Get Qualified?

Please be aware that your Koh Tao PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience is not a dive qualification. However, if you like it and would like to proceed with your PADI Open Water Diver qualification, then just speak to your diving instructor. PADI Open Water classes at our Koh Tao dive resort begin daily, and take just 2.5 more days after you’ve completed your Koh Tao one-day try diving experience.
